The Stafford Reading Center is not a general tutoring facility, but a team of experienced reading specialists dedicated to addressing and correcting reading deficiencies. Our approach is grounded in the science of reading and supported by evidence-based research. Each team member brings advanced training and extensive experience working with both students and educators.

Reading is the cornerstone of academic success, and underperformance in this area can stem from a variety of underlying causes. Our mission is to identify the root of each student’s reading challenges and implement targeted, effective interventions to support long-term growth.

We currently provide in-person instruction in the Oviedo, Florida area. Online instruction is available on a case-by-case basis, depending on student needs and suitability.

I began my career working with struggling readers at Seminole High School in 2008. Since then, I have served as an adjunct professor at the University of Central Florida, a private literacy consultant for public schools, and a reading teacher within the public school system.

My journey with the Orton-Gillingham Approach began on a personal level when my son was diagnosed with dyslexia—a surprising discovery given his proficient score on the state reading assessment and his gifted IQ. Determined to support him effectively, I enrolled in coursework through the Orton-Gillingham Academy and quickly developed a deep appreciation for the approach and its impact on learners.

My mission is to foster a strong Orton-Gillingham community in the Oviedo area, bringing high-quality, research-based literacy instruction to students and support to fellow professionals.

Karen is an experienced reading educator with over 30 years of dedicated service. Her career began in the early 1990s in Cleveland, Ohio, and reflects a lifelong commitment to professional growth and development. She is deeply passionate about supporting students with learning disabilities and recently retired after a distinguished tenure in the public school system. Karen holds certifications in English, Reading, Social Studies, and Special Education, and has attained Associate Level certification in the Orton-Gillingham Approach.

IMPROVEMENTS IN DYSLEXIA

My daughter started with Stafford Reading Center in 3rd grade till 5th grade for Dyslexia. She worked with Tammy and loves her. My daughter’s confidence level with reading was not to high when we start with SRC and by end of 4th she was raising her hand to read out loud. 5th grade she had no problem reading in-front of the class. She didn’t want us to help her sound out her words because she wanted to try and try on her own. She pushes herself to try and try if it is hard. She has always been determined. Tammy has given her the tools to help her in life for reading comprehension and other skills to help her succeed. She has shown her that she has her own super powers. We love her and recommend SRC 1000%.
